Born on 22 September 2018, Riley has been part of the family since he was eight weeks old. He’s calm, silly, loyal, strong-willed, energetic — and very particular about the things he likes.

THE DOG BEHIND THE HAUS
It started with one tiny Golden Retriever.
Riley came home from his breeder at eight weeks old in 2018. There isn’t a dramatic story behind his name — we simply loved Riley, and once we’d met him nothing else would have suited him.
What started with one puppy very quickly became something much bigger, because Riley has never really been the dog.
“Riley is so much more than a pet — he’s one of the family. A big part of the family.”
He’s also a very furry, occasionally stubborn and completely unapologetic invader of personal space.
SO, WHAT’S RILEY ACTUALLY LIKE?
Five words. One very Golden personality.
Calm
Silly
Loyal
Strong-willed
Energetic
He can happily settle down and watch the world go by — but mention a walk, a pond or the possibility of zoomies and things change very quickly.
RILEY’S KIND OF DAY
Long walks. Water. Toys.
And Mum, obviously.
Riley knows exactly what he likes. The bigger the walk, the wetter the pond and the softer the toy, the better.

If there’s water involved, Riley is interested.
Small soft toys
Not necessarily the biggest toy in the room. He knows what he likes.
Proper long walks
The longer the better. Preferably with somewhere to investigate along the way.
Favourite person? His Mum. There was never really any competition.

Personal space?
Riley has never heard of it.
If you’re sitting down, Riley can almost certainly sit closer. If you’re trying to do something, Riley may decide he should be involved. If he likes you, you’ll know about it.
He loves people — pretty much everyone — although smaller, barkier dogs are rather less likely to receive the same enthusiasm.

A Golden Retriever with opinions.
Being Chief Product Tester isn’t just an honorary title. Riley is genuinely very particular about what he likes — which makes him rather useful.
As The Golden Haus grows, Riley will really test the products we feature. Toys, treats, accessories, beds and anything else we think deserves a place in the Haus.
The investigation
A serious sniff and a proper Golden inspection.
The test
Play with it, carry it, lie on it — or occasionally ignore it completely.
The verdict
If it keeps his attention and does the job, it may earn Riley Approved.
No automatic five-star reviews. No pretending he loves something when he doesn’t. Just the opinion of one particularly selective Golden Retriever.

WHY RILEY IS PART OF THE GOLDEN HAUS
This place wouldn’t really make sense without him.
The Golden Haus isn’t a general pet shop with a Golden Retriever on the logo. It exists because we love the breed — and Riley is a huge part of why.
Living with him showed us how much personality Goldens have and how completely they become part of the family.
There was only ever going to be one dog in charge.

Riley will be testing products, helping decide what makes it into the shop, appearing in our Golden Guides and almost certainly getting involved in things he wasn’t originally invited to.
That’s Riley. And that’s exactly how we want it.
